The Board is excited to announce the 2020-21 Employee of the Year: Mary Frothingham.
Mary is the district's only school-based nurse, providing services for over 1,400 students in the district at our four campuses. Mary began her career in 2019 at Grand County School District and is the first full-time nurse ever employed by the district to cover all the schools. Mary is a key player helping to keep our schools open to in-person learning all year through the Covid-19 pandemic and has been instrumental in providing testing for our students to continue playing sports and participating in clubs, groups and tournaments.
Mary is the point-of-contact person for all staff, students and families during the pandemic, coordinating and tracking symptomatic and asymptomatic testing, contact tracing, quarantines and spending time addressing individual concerns. Her countless hours of researching Covid-19 procedures, meetings with the health department, school district and other health officials, have been too numerous to keep track of.
Mary worked with the Department of Health and Human Services for permission to be able to collect Covid tests at the schools for laboratory examinations so that students could be tested on campus without having to miss school to go to the health department or hospital. She regularly tests the parents and family members of students for Covid to help each school isolate students in classrooms or quarantine students outside of the schools. She has worked at the hospital to administer Covid tests in her spare time while working well over her 40 hours a week at the schools. At the same time, Mary completes her other duties as a nurse, facilitating vision screenings and referrals, updating student vaccine records and administering medication when needed. She helped implement the vaccination clinic to ensure the health and safety of our staff members at one time, and coordinated with the health department to provide student vaccine clinics.
This Covid school year would not have been possible if it were not for the vigorous and irreplaceable efforts of Nurse Mary. Congratulations Mary!
