Grand County teacher Christa Green named Utah Art Educator of the Year

At its regular meeting on March 17, the Grand County Board of Education presented teacher Christa Green with an honorary certificate for being named Art Educator of the Year in Utah, a designation given to one educator each year by the Utah Art Education Association.

The Utah Art Education Association shared this information about Ms. Green:

started her teaching career at Springdale Elementary for a year after graduating from Dixie College and Southern Utah University with a BFA in Art Education. After moving to Moab to be a mountain bike and river guide for the summer, Christa was hired on at Grand County Middle School. She later transferred to Grand County High School to start the 2007-2008 school year.

She has stayed at Grand County High School for the past 14 years teaching jewelry, ceramics, oil painting, watercolor, printmaking, commercial art, and AP Art. Christa enjoys providing an art experience for her art students with field trips to Springville Museum of Arts, BYU Museum of Art, and guest artist workshops with local and regional artists. With displaying student artwork in various venues in Moab, an annual Los Angeles area art trip with Dixie State University, and an occasional trip to Europe with students.

She has coached many students in the Sterling Scholar program with 9 students winning and 3 runner-up, cross-country, and even started the mountain bike team and still contributes by designing their jerseys. In 2016-2017 Christa obtained her Masters Degree in Media Design from Full Sail University and managed to potty train her daughter at the same time. 

Christa has done numerous workshops at UAEA’s Art in the Sun Conference and is currently on the Region Board for Southeastern Utah. Her art published in the “Century of Sanctuary - The Art of Zion National Park” in 2008. Christa is the recipient of Utah Education Association 2019 Teaching of Excellence Award.  Currently she is building a house with her husband Verle and little girl Aspen.
